Sierra Tracks Vega Trails

Following the acclaimed 2022 debut Tremors in the Static, bassist Milo Fitzpatrick (formerly of Portico Quartet) returns with Sierra Tracks, a deeply atmospheric and cinematic jazz journey, inspired by the rugged landscapes of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains in Spain.

Expanding the Vega Trails project beyond its original duo format, Fitzpatrick brings in pianist Taz Modi, vibraphonist Harriet Riley, and multi-reedist Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands, Sunda Arc), who adds an array of saxophones, bass clarinet, and traditional wind instruments. Together, they craft a meditative, textural soundscape that draws from contemporary jazz, folk traditions, and ambient orchestration.

The record was shaped by Fitzpatrick’s personal journey through mental health and self-discovery, using music as a form of healing. He explores the cyclical nature of thought and movement, mirroring how walking or running through nature can bring clarity and relief from emotional entanglement. The recurring motifs and themes throughout the album reflect these cycles, offering a deeply immersive listening experience.

Recorded with high-quality black BioVinyl at Optimal in Germany, this limited edition pressing is an essential release for fans of spatial, evocative, and deeply expressive jazz.
