Anthem 44th Move

44th Move is the combined creative force of acclaimed pianist & composer Alfa Mist and drummer & producer Richard Spaven. Known for their genre-defying musicianship, the duo have built stellar individual reputations—Alfa Mist for his influential jazz releases like Antiphon and Variables, and Richard Spaven for his pioneering drum work with Flying Lotus, Goldie, and more.

After making waves in 2020 with their debut project, the duo return with Anthem, a genre-blurring fusion of jazz, hip-hop, dance, and electronic experimentation. Released via Bristol’s trailblazing Black Acre Records, the album sees 44th Move pushing boundaries while staying rooted in live musicianship and improvisation.

Leading single "The Move" features Detroit rapper Quelle Chris, delivering introspective bars over cascading chords and intricate percussion, while "Free Hit" injects junglist rhythms with hypnotic chord progressions and brass flourishes. The record also boasts appearances from Bristol turntablist legend Awkward, seamlessly weaving hip-hop, techno, and DnB into a jazz-infused soundscape.

Reflecting on the album’s ethos, Richard Spaven notes:
