Mid Spiral BADBADNOTGOOD

At the start of 2024, BADBADNOTGOOD were full of creative energy after a string of international tour dates and sessions with artists like Daniel Caesar, Charlotte Day Wilson, reggie, Baby Rose, and Turnstile. The Canadian trio of Al Sow, Chester Hansen, and Leland Whitty returned to the studio, eager to create new music. They called on longtime collaborator Felix Fox-Pappas (keys), and key players from the Toronto jazz scene, including Kaelin Murphy (trumpet), Juan Carlos Medrano (percussion), and LA musician Tyler Lott (guitar).

In an intensive one-week recording session at Valentine Studios in Los Angeles in February 2024, they produced the ‘Mid Spiral’ series, originally released digitally as three parts: ‘Chaos,’ ‘Order,’ and ‘Growth.’ Now collected together on CD and double LP, the ‘Mid Spiral’ suites showcase BADBADNOTGOOD's return to instrumental jazz while continuing to push genre boundaries, incorporating elements of hip-hop, neo-soul, psychedelic, and funk.

This collaborative project reflects three distinct moods that emerged from the sessions—Chaos, Order, and Growth—offering a deeper look into the musicians' personal lives and the wider world.
