Since the early 1960s, Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd had firmly established Studio One as the unrivaled leader in reggae music, launching the careers of legends like Bob Marley & The Wailers, Marcia Griffiths, The Skatalites, Horace Andy, Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, and many more.

From ska and rocksteady to roots, dub, and DJ styles, Studio One was at the forefront of every major reggae development. By the late 1970s, with its supremacy in reggae music solidified, Studio One embraced the dancehall era, releasing iconic albums by Sugar Minott, Johnny Osbourne, Freddie McGregor, and others, shaping its output for the next 25 years.

This period also saw the return of long-established artists like Alton Ellis and Jackie Mittoo, recording creatively fulfilling albums that both honored the classic Studio One sound and pushed boundaries into new musical territories.
