Following the loss of his creative partner Mimi Parker, Alan Sparhawk leans into the warmth of community on With Trampled by Turtles. A long-time fixture of the Duluth scene, Sparhawk joined forces with bluegrass favourites Trampled by Turtles – a band he’s shared stages and friendships with for decades – to create a powerful record steeped in folk, bluegrass and shared history.
Unlike his 2024 solo album White Roses, My God, which was drenched in electronic textures, this one strips things back. The vocals are raw and open, the instrumentation earthy and immediate, and the spirit utterly communal. With contributions from Sparhawk’s daughter Hollis, producer Nat Harvie, and even unreleased material developed with Parker before her passing, this is a record that holds the past close while moving gently into the future.
