In Between Revisited: Jazzanova Live

Released in May 2025 to mark twenty years since Jazzanova's debut album In Between, this live reinterpretation was recorded at Little Big Beat Studios with the Jazzanova Live Band performing the record in full for the first time in front of an audience. The original 2002 album helped define the German broken-beat and nu-jazz sound of the early 2000s, built largely from sampling and studio production; hearing those same compositions reworked by a live ensemble two decades later offers a genuinely different perspective on material that's since become a genre touchstone. It's as much a document of how far the band's musicianship has developed as it is a tribute to the original record.

Jazzanova are a Berlin-based collective formed in the mid-1990s, initially built around DJing and remix work before evolving into a fully-fledged production and live outfit. Their sound blends jazz, soul, broken beat and electronic production into something warm and meticulously arranged, and their 2002 debut In Between became a defining record of the broken-beat era, drawing on collaborations with vocalists and musicians from across the jazz and soul world. Over two decades on, the group has evolved into a genuine live band capable of reinterpreting their catalogue with real musicians rather than studio production alone, as this anniversary live album demonstrates.
