Corps Perdu grows out of Lamin Fofana’s long-running practice of creating multisensory sound environments informed by Black Studies and by writers including W.E.B. Du Bois, Sylvia Wynter, Dionne Brand, Fred Moten, Édouard Glissant, Suzanne Césaire and Aimé Césaire. Rather than illustrating those texts, Fofana lets their ideas circulate through sound, carrying historical awareness into music that remains unsettled by the present.
The album was developed through collective reading and listening sessions in Paris, Barcelona, Tunis and New York, where audience members read fragments from texts selected by Fofana while he mixed the unfolding experience live. That process gives Corps Perdu an open-ended quality: the record feels less like a closed statement than one iteration of an ongoing inquiry into how sound and language can reshape one another.
Across ten tracks, intuitive hand-held melodies are worked through dense processing and rhythms that resist settling into straightforward dancefloor grooves. The music moves in fragments, currents and sudden transformations, echoing the imagery of Aimé Césaire’s 1950 poetry collection Corps Perdu and its sense of a body being scattered, remade and set in motion.
It is a demanding but deeply absorbing listen — ambient and electronic in its materials, but closer in spirit to installation, performance and sound art than conventional club music.

How long will my order take?
Many of the records we sell are sourced to order from our trusted network of UK distributors, allowing us to offer thousands more titles than we could ever stock in-store. Please allow up to 7 working days for dispatch.
If you've pre-ordered a record, we'll always aim to dispatch it in time for release day so it arrives on, or as close to, the official release date as possible.
Why does dispatch take a little longer?
We're an independent record shop, not a warehouse. Rather than filling shelves with thousands of records that may never sell, we carefully source many titles once you place your order.

How are records packaged?
Every record is packed using purpose-made vinyl mailers with protective packaging to help ensure it arrives safely.

Can I return my order?
If your order arrives damaged or isn't quite right, please get in touch and we'll make it right.
