Miles Davis and Gil Evans turn Spanish classical music into one of jazz’s most cinematic masterpieces.
Originally released in 1960, Sketches of Spain is the third major collaboration between Miles Davis and arranger Gil Evans. Rather than treating Spanish themes as decoration, they build a rich orchestral world around Davis’s trumpet: spacious, dramatic and unlike almost anything else in his catalogue.
The centrepiece is their reworking of the Adagio from Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, surrounded by music drawn from Manuel de Falla and Spanish folk traditions. Davis plays with remarkable restraint, leaving Evans’s brass, woodwind and percussion arrangements to create the colour and scale around him.
This edition presents the album on yellow vinyl, matching its unmistakable Columbia sleeve.
For Fans Of: Gil Evans, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus.

How long will my order take?
Many of the records we sell are sourced to order from our trusted network of UK distributors, allowing us to offer thousands more titles than we could ever stock in-store. Please allow up to 7 working days for dispatch.
If you've pre-ordered a record, we'll always aim to dispatch it in time for release day so it arrives on, or as close to, the official release date as possible.
Why does dispatch take a little longer?
We're an independent record shop, not a warehouse. Rather than filling shelves with thousands of records that may never sell, we carefully source many titles once you place your order.
It means a wider catalogue, less waste and more opportunities to discover great music.
How are records packaged?
